AN UNTAMED LINE
These pieces form a body of work for a recent solo exhibition at Chelmsford Museum entitled "An Untamed Line". I was interested in exploring accidental mark-making where ink meets water. There's a combination of intentionality and the uncontrollable in making the work. Whilst the drawing is clearly figurative the accidental marks start a process of abstraction.
"An Untamed Line" featured a collection of figurative drawings that explore experimental techniques with ink and water. By embracing unexpected and accidental marks, these pieces capture a blend of freedom and vulnerability. Through the delicate interplay of line and form, the work takes us on a journey to explore the subtle intricacies of the human experience, bringing its depth and beauty to life on paper. I’m always intrigued by how differently people respond to my drawings, as each viewer brings their own experiences and emotions to the work — often interpreting it in deeply personal ways, much like a Rorschach test.
