ABOUT

I am a figurative artist based at Hylands Estate in Chelmsford. I studied Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford, and completed a Postgraduate Diploma at Chelsea College of Art and Design.

In my practice, I explore the interplay between control and chance. I work figuratively, allowing materials—ink, water, acrylic, and found surfaces—to leave unexpected marks and subtle traces of abstraction. I am drawn to fragments and fleeting details that evoke presence, connection, and vulnerability. My drawings dwell in the space where figuration meets abstraction, where ink meets water and unpredictability begins to shape the image, creating moments that feel both fragile and alive.

Recognition of my work includes being shortlisted for prizes such as the Jerwood Drawing Prize, National Art Open, and ING Discerning Eye. I have exhibited with Alan Cristea Gallery and won the Red Mansion Art Prize which involved a residency in Beijing. In 2012, I was one of 30 artists commissioned by the Royal Mail to design a special edition stamp for the London Olympic Games, and my illustrations have appeared in publications such as The House of Windows, World of Interiors, The Times Educational Supplement, and Condé Nast Traveller.

My studio at Hylands Estate is open to the public on the second Sunday of each month.
